I just finally finish this painting. It took me a week and half to do it. I was just playing around with the colors and a pattern. It turn out again better than what I expected. I love how the colors complement each other and the white circles makes the colors pop more. I must say that this project was a slow process which I’m not use to doing. Most of the time I would doing it all in one day but this one I wanted to take my time on and look it over and over before doing to much to it. Now that it done I can say it complete without any worries or dissatisfaction.
Project #1 Love Thyself
Published 2012/05/05 by owningmyexpressionIn order to get this project going I have to say first that I am new to writing a tutorial so please bear with me and second if you have any question I be happy to answer it. Next I have been going through some ups and downs that I want to face this feeling in order to get a grips on how to deal with it through some therapeutic art. I wrote some personal writing on loving thyself. It something we all go through. I don’t want to say what I wrote but I want to express what I am going through so you can have an idea as what I am doing. Okay now it out there, I will process on the next part of the project.
Here is what I have use in this project. I took an old canvas that I previous painted on that I will use as my background color. You can use any color you like as a background color. I use this one because I was playing around and didn’t know what to do with it after. I guess it didn’t go to waste. I also took a sheet of paper and wrote what I was feeling at the moment. You can say I took a journal page and ripe it into pieces. I am going to glue the strips into the canvas.
Then I going to add few more colors in different ways. I waited for the glue to dry before adding any colors to the paper. I also check if paper was all glue to the canvas and add little more glue to it so when I add the paint it won’t start peeling back. After that I took the lite blue which I water down and painted the strips of paper.
This is when I took the colors and started to use my tools to get the little detail into it. The green thin lines I use the edge of plastic card to make the lines. A brush to make the yellow strokes thicker lines. I used cardboard to make the purple lines. The blue circles are from a bottle cap and the orange was water down, splash on and some was wipe off to give a faded look. Then I decide to add a quote to the end of the painting. I must say I can’t write in a straight line so I use a pencil and ruler to write the quote down then a marker and erase the pencil markings. The quote says, “I love myself for who I am.”
You can click on any of the photo to get a closer look at it. I am sorry if I didn’t show more on how I did the technique part. It takes alot of pictures and patience to do it when you in the moment of creating. I hope you join in the fun and let some steam out. Again, if you have any question, I try my best to explain it. I want to do another one and try to slow it down. I can show more on how to do it if you like just let me know okay. I can’t wait to make project 2 and to see what you made.
Expressing Through Art
Published 2012/05/02 by owningmyexpressionFor the month of May, I thought why not do a project on expressing one self through art. It would be something therapeutic. It like this whatever I am feeling being it angry, sad, or upset, I would take out my supplies and just paint it out. This would help me get it out and see it in front of me so I can view it. I can use this when I am so emotions so I can clearly see whats going on. You can join in the fun of expressing yourself as well if you like. The point is to letting it out so you can feel better. This way it can help relieve stress or pent up emotions that needs to get out. I would be posting on how I’m going to do it being with supplies I use, the technique, and the process. It can help you get inspire to create something on your own. There really no right or wrong way of doing it but it can be something that you don’t have to do on your own at first. The whole thing is to get start and to pace yourself but in the end, you can make it how you want it to look. I hope you will see what I have create and you will join in the fun of self expression through art.
April
Published 2012/04/21 by owningmyexpressionThis month I made six painting and I realize in each painting there was an little meaning going on that I express through them. Every time I felt something I would take out my brushes with paints to get it out. I didn’t realize it until I put them together and took a closer look at them. It wasn’t at that moment that I begin to name each one by a emotion. I was a bit surprise that toward the end of the month I would be in high spirit and was able to catcher the moment with my art. And here they are:
CALM
April Spring
Published 2012/04/03 by owningmyexpression
The end of March I want to paint something I haven’t done yet so when April first came, I wanted to do new technique in my art so I try to use sponge and straw. The sponge to lightly pad the color on and the straw to blow the color into different direction. I was patient with it in a way that let the paint dry and went to the next color. The blowing of the color I just went with it I didn’t have anything in mind. It was fun that I definitely want to do it again
March Arts
Published 2012/04/03 by owningmyexpressionMarch is National Craft Month and I decide to take what I have around the house and use it in my art. The materials I use is workbooks pages, newspaper, books pages, shoe boxes, cardboard boxes, shred paper and anything else that I feel will be useful. I have use commercial postcards from the mail in the past to do small art. I like to experiment with different material to use for my painting it can be fun and creative. It give me chance to see what I like and don’t like to use and of course trial and error in my progress of creating something different and unique each time. Since March came and went I didn’t get a chance to post my march arts so here is four playful painting with these materials and colors. I had hits and miss with them which it okay. It helps me when I get stuck or don’t feel like painting to continue playing.
The Last Two
Published 2012/04/03 by owningmyexpressionFebruary Adventurous
Published 2012/03/21 by owningmyexpressionI called this painting Adventurous because I adventure into a way I never thought of try. I took the colors bright pink, hot pink, and turquoise as the background . I add more colors in different ways like yellow, green, red, white, glitter green, light pink, blues, black, and purple. Also did it in circle, dots, slash, blotch, splash, drips, and spread the colors around the canvas. At first, I didn’t like it but the more I explore with different colors the more I adventure into different techniques. I was able to do it all the different techniques that I have use in other painting into one work. The paper was glue thin and angle to give it a effect to the painting. It look like I was emotionally upset and need it to get out on to the canvas. This was the painting I was doing at the same time with Mistake. It did stress me out but i was able to make both painting at the same time with there own style.
February Mistake
Published 2012/03/12 by owningmyexpressionI will called this one Mistake. With this painting two things happen, I did it at the same time with another painting and it didn’t turn out to be what it was original intend to look like.
Let me explain, I got an idea to do the next painting and then another idea pop up in mind at the same time. I didn’t want to forget it that I did two painting at once. I will show you the other one in the next post.
The other thing the idea got mess up that it turn into something else. The background is what I mess up on that I just add colors and little pieces of left over paper from the other painting over it so you won’t see my big mess.
I guess mistake do happen for a reason. It was suppose to be a door way with light coming through instead it look like windows with some papers stuck to it where the light was suppose to be. So I just lively it up with some life to it.
Warning: I am starting to think that my favorite colors I like to use is pink, purple, and blue. They seem to dance together perfectly and you might seem these colors again in other art work.
February Trash
Published 2012/03/03 by owningmyexpressionWhen I did Bliss in February, I wanted to do it again but didn’t know how to make it better or copy it so I got frustrate that I decide to just go for it. This one is call Trash because it reminds me of a big pile of garbage that fell on the floor that became one big mess. I just wanted to paint and not stop creating. It was like a creative block. I wanted to do more but didn’t know what color or style to start with. This time there was no doing it this way or that way. I just ran with it that I kept adding and adding until I couldn’t do no more.
I started with paper square with white and blue colors in the background then add more crinkle paper with red and pink paint. Finally, I just add more colors, glitter and small pieces of paper until I couldn’t make it any uglier. Don’t get me wrong, it not that I don’t like this piece. I was able to let loose and it help me open up to create more pieces of art. I love it because its messy, crazy, angry, and damn right trashy.
